Ryan Bancroft is an American conductor born in Los Angeles in 1989. He grew up in Lakewood, California, from a working-class background. He studied trumpet at the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts), where his academic studies focused on trumpet and his mentors included Edward Carroll. He earned a BFA degree from CalArts in 2011 and an MFA degree from CalArts in 2013. He continued conducting studies at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (RCS). His big breakthrough came in 2018 when he won both first prize and the audience prize at the Malko Competition in Copenhagen. In September 2019, the BBC NOW announced the appointment of Bancroft as its next principal conductor, effective with the 2020–2021 season. Bancroft is the first American conductor to be named principal conductor of the BBC NOW. In 2021, he was announced as chief conductor designate of the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, and took up the chief conductor position in September 2023. Source: Rondo DB
