Nicki Wells is a London-based British singer, songwriter and composer whose work draws on Western classical, pop and Indian classical music. She spent part of her childhood, from the age of six to ten, in Dharamshala in the Himalayan state of Himachal Pradesh in India, where meditation and Indian classical music formed part of her education. She graduated with a first-class degree in music from the Academy of Contemporary Music in Guildford, where she was introduced to Nitin Sawhney. After auditioning for him with a Sanskrit hymn she began a collaboration lasting more than a decade, featuring as a vocalist on three of his studio albums and touring with him to venues such as the Royal Albert Hall and the Sydney Opera House. She is credited, alongside Sawhney, on the track Time on Hélène Grimaud's Deutsche Grammophon EP Memory Echo (2019). She released her debut solo album Ocean in 2018 under the name TURYA, followed by Shloka (2019), an album of spiritual songs, and Ellipsis (2023). Her film work includes the score for Khyentse Norbu's Vara: A Blessing (2013), and her voice can be heard on the soundtrack of Andy Serkis's Mowgli (2018). She has also worked with Joss Stone.
