Karl Ridderbusch (29 May 1932, Recklinghausen – 21 June 1997) was a German operatic bass, particularly associated with the music of Wagner and a celebrated Hans Sachs. Planning at first to work as an engineer for his father, he was discovered at an amateur competition by tenor Rudolf Schock, who helped fund his training at the conservatoire in Duisburg and the Folkwang Hochschule in Essen. He debuted at the Städtische Bühnen Münster in 1961, then sang in Essen, and from 1965 was a member of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein. He appeared at La Scala (from 1966), the Metropolitan Opera (1967), the Vienna State Opera (1968) and Covent Garden (1971), and made his Bayreuth Festival debut in 1967 as Heinrich der Vogler.
