Seung Kwak (곽승, 郭升), born on December 11, 1941, in Masan, South Korea, is a prominent South Korean conductor. He began his musical career as a trumpet player with the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra and KBS Symphony Orchestra before transitioning to conducting. Kwak studied at Kyung Hee University and later studied conducting at Mannes College in New York. He served as conductor in residence for the American Ballet Company and was assistant to Robert Shaw at the Atlanta Symphony for three years. Additionally, he served as assistant conductor of the Cleveland Orchestra under Lorin Maazel. Kwak served as principal conductor of the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra from 2003 to 2005, and as principal guest conductor of the KBS Symphony Orchestra from 2004 to 2006.
