Sophus Christian Danning (16 June 1867 – 7 November 1925) was a Danish composer and conductor. He was born in Odense and died in the same city, buried in Helnæs, Odense amt. Danning studied violin with V. Tofte, piano with Alb. Orth and theory with J. D. Bondesen, later continuing his studies at the conservatory in Sondershausen and with S. Jadassohn in Leipzig. He traveled on the Ancker scholarship in 1896 to Italy, France and Germany and settled as a music teacher in Copenhagen after a stay in Finland. His conducting career included several notable positions: From 1898 to 1907 he worked in Bergen as a conductor for the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra and Den Nationale Scene, and from 1907 to 1914 he conducted at Fahlstrøms Theater.
