Ole Pedersen Rødder (1743-1806) was a Norwegian violinist and music director in Bergen, closely associated with the early history of Musikselskabet Harmonien, the music society founded in 1765 that later became the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra. In 1783 he became the society's first paid musician, engaged as concertmaster of its orchestra, which in its early days rehearsed at the Altona tavern, where Rødder was a familiar figure. Following the death of Niels Haslund in 1785, he took over the direction of Harmonien and led the orchestra from the violin for twenty years, from 1785 to 1805. From 1789 he also held the privileged office of town musician (stadsmusikant) of Bergen, responsible for supplying music for the city's civic and private festivities. He was succeeded at the head of Harmonien by the Danish violinist J. Hindrich Paulsen (Johan Henrich Poulson). Source: Rondo DB
