Samuel Lind (1727-1770) was a Norwegian town musician (stadsmusikant) and the first music director of Musikselskabet Harmonien in Bergen, the society that later became the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra. Trained as a musician's journeyman (musikantsvenn) within Bergen's town-musician guild, he married Dorothea Schram, from a family of Bergen town musicians, in 1758, and held the post of stadsmusikant of Bergen from 1748 - from 1759 as the city's sole town musician, holding the privilege of providing music for civic and private festivities. When Det Musicalske Selskab (later Harmonien) was founded on 8 October 1765 by Jens Boalth and Claus Fasting, Lind became its first director, leading the society's orchestra of professional musicians and gifted amateurs from 1765 to 1769. He was succeeded by the organist Benjamin Ohle. Source: Rondo DB
