Alonso Cordelás was a Spanish conductor, remembered as the first principal conductor of the Orquesta Sinfónica de Madrid. He had appeared as a guest conductor with Madrid's earlier Sociedad de Conciertos and was working in Munich when the musicians who founded the new orchestra in December 1903, in the rehearsal hall of the Teatro Real, chose him through the contacts of concertmaster José del Hierro and cellist Víctor Mirecki. Seeking to avoid the frequent changes of guest conductors that had weakened the Sociedad de Conciertos, the orchestra engaged him as its season-long principal conductor. He led the orchestra's inaugural concert at the Teatro Real on 7 February 1904. His tenure was short: difficulties with section leaders and the organisation, together with unfavourable reviews, led to his departure along with José del Hierro, and in 1905 the orchestra began its three-decade collaboration with Enrique Fernández Arbós.
