Georg Hüttner (1861-1919) was a German conductor and music director who played a decisive role in the musical life of Dortmund. In 1887 he took charge of the orchestra that became known as the Hüttner Kapelle, the ensemble from which the municipal orchestra and today's Dortmund Philharmonic Orchestra descend; he is regarded as the founder of the city orchestra and is listed as its first principal conductor, a post he held until 1919. Together with Carl Holtschneider he also founded the Dortmund Conservatory, known as the Hüttner Conservatory, where Gerard Bunk later taught on the recommendation of Max Reger. Hüttner bore the title of Professor and Musikdirektor, and maintained close ties with Reger, who praised his conducting and was photographed with him in Dortmund in 1909. A street in Dortmund, the Hüttnerstraße, is named after him. Source: Rondo DB
