Definition: An ensemble of military personnel that performs musical duties for military functions which include field music (providing both control of troop movements and entertainment) and ceremonial music (e.g., national anthems, patriotic music, and funeral processions). A typical military band consists mostly of wind and percussion instruments, but a second tradition of brass and woodwind military bands has also developed.
