Orchester Wiener Akademie

The Wiener Akademie Orchester was formed in 1985 by conductor Martin Haselböck to become the leading period instruments orchestra in Austria. With a broad repertoire ranging from Baroque to contemporary music, the orchestra also includes modern instruments, showing great flexibility between historically informed performances and more mainstream readings. The Wiener Akademie Orchesterpresents concerts in the Musikverein in Vienna, and has hosted many artists as soloists, including Cecilia Bartoli, Daniel Hope, Thomas Hampson, Isabelle Faust, Elisabeth Kulman, Cyprien Katsaris, Soile Isokoski, Anne Schwanewilms, and Ronald Brautigam, among many others. The ensemble is the resident orchestra of the International Liszt Festival and, under Haselböck's leadership, it has recorded Liszt's orchestral works on period instruments for the Alpha label. The Wiener Akademie Orchester has also participated in major music events, such as the Prague Spring Festival, the Frankfurter Fest, the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, the Wiener Festwochen, the KlangBogen Wien, the Carinthian Summer Music Festival, the Musikfest Stuttgart, and the Handel Festival, Halle. The orchestra's discography includes recordings of Baroque, Classical, and Romantic works on Alpha, CPO, NCA, Novalis, and Thorofon. Allmusic
